As reported on Irish National News, there has been a marked increase in numbers with influenzs-like illness. It has been noted by the HSE that during week 6 2012 (week ending
February 12th), the general practitioner consultation rate for influenza-like illness (ILI) in Ireland increased to 26.2 per 100,000 population from a rate of 15.7 per 100,000 during week 5 (week ending February 5th).

Due to the levels of influenza activity seen last week in Ireland and the warning that flu case figures could rise over the coming weeks, health authorities have advised at-risk groups, including the elderly, chronically ill and pregnant, to get vaccinated.
